"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms."

Walden, Henry David Thoreau

My favourite thing about being back is having breakfast in the burbs, with people I haven’t seen in a long time. This time, it was at Foodrinkery, a tiny cafe where you could have your crumpets with bacon and ice-cream, and nobody would ever think it was strange. I copped out and went down the Eggs Benedict route, because I find it impossible to resist a good Eggs Benedict.

At N2 Extreme Gelato in Fitzroy, they use liquid nitrogen to make gelato. It’s like some weird Hogsmeade witchcraft, but with science. We drove all the way to Fitzroy last night to check it out, and it was well worth the trip. The first one pictured is ‘De-Conjuring Mocachino’, and the second is ‘Honey I Shrank My Sago Sorbet’ (yay for Oscar season!). The place was busy for a Monday night, but the science-y goodness made up for the wait.
